Bongiorno,

Ottimo articolo mi pare. Ecco alcune dei miei commenti in inglese cosi che si puo capire chiaramente.

The year 1938 was leading to World War II and a lot of things happened because of the imminence of it. We know that Fermi moved to the U.S. in December after receiving the Nobel Prize in part due to the danger for his wife if they stayed in Europe.

The day Majorana disappeared, he had withdrawn all of his money from the bank and taken his passport with him. Fermi and Majorana had been together at Via Panisperna and I suspect Majorana knew and understood a lot of Fermi's work. This made a target. It seems obvious that he was also going to 'bail out', but we don't know exactly why and how.

However I would offer at least two potential scenarios for his disappearance. The first implies that he wanted to leave with a knowledge that made him a target and was killed while on the boat by agents of foreign powers.

The second scenario, corroborating the hypothesis he may have ended in a foreign country, would have him successfully escaping ( but who is this 'Sciutti', maybe an agent ? ) but not going to the U.S. as it seems or maybe under a false name. Why would he go to Venezuela though?

An alternate version of the second scenario would be that he was kidnapped and sent to Germany to work with Strassman and Co. Later, after the war, h would be released and went to S. America. Those are obviously dark hypotheses close to a Hollywood plot, - but we have seen worse during the Cold War. An interesting point is that his body was not found ( thrown at sea? Peacefully died in S. America under a false name? ) Who will ever know? Grazie mille comunque del bel'articolo
